At the end of my street there is a tree that I pass by everyday. It stands alone at the edge of the corner inviting my gaze to look upon it for a few still moments. Since I’ve moved here I’ve witnessed the transformation this tree has undergone through the different seasons. When I first arrived its limbs were budding with white flowers as it awoke from a long winters slumber. As the months passed by the budding limbs soon became full with a bountiful supply of green leaves. I remember putting on my first sweater and taking a stroll down the street. The green leaves were transforming into beautiful shades of gold and orange. But as the cold wind blew in, it also blew the beautiful array of colors away from the tree. The tree now stands naked and almost vulnerable.
I couldn’t help but compare the beautiful transformation that the tree underwent with our lives. Through life we are in a constant state of transformation and change. Sometimes we are budding into a new situation bringing about a new sense of life. Other times we are left naked and exposed. What we must realize is that each transformation is crucial to our growing and understanding. As we grow our roots dig down deeper and we are able to withstand harsh winds that blow our way.
If you would have asked me five years ago that I would be a runner, a world traveler, a college graduate and so on I would have called you a liar. I was a scared insecure girl with a tough upbringing. But, because of those trials and tribulations I have been able to become a well-rounded, loving, and supportive person who understands hurt and pain.
I’ve learned through those tough obstacles that everything in life is temporary which has become the theme of my life.
I broke my leg.
“This is temporary”
I’ve gotten my heart broken.
“This is temporary”
I hate this job.
“This is temporary”
If you do not like your situation know that it won’t always be like this. That your heart will heal. That you will overcome hurt, anger, sorrow, and begin to love and forgive. That spring will come again.
The biggest lesson in life to learn is to know that you have the power to change. That what may be holding you back today may be what opens the door for you tomorrow. And as the seasons change and you are able to sit back and witness your transformation then you will realize how much power YOU have.
You are the commander of your own fate, the compass of your own path, the right choice, and most of all you can become the person you have always wanted to be.
