** BUZZ BUZZ ** (the alarm goes off)
You open one eye, then the other. It’s morning. No, wait … it’s Valentine’s morning.
You throw the covers off of yourself and stand up. You look in the mirror and say, “I love you! Happy Valentine’s Day!” Right? No? Why not? Isn’t this a day of LOVE? Who says today is only about showing love to another person? It’s not. Today, my friend, this Valentine’s is dedicated to YOU.
Nobody knows you better than yourself. You know your favorite song, your biggest fear, your lifelong goal, your favorite candy bar, and your deepest secrets. You’re the only one that gets you out of bed every morning. You’re the only one that pushes yourself through a hectic day at work. You’re the only one who decides to eat, sleep, and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. You are your own keeper. You are your own hero.
When was the last time you told yourself you were proud of all your accomplishments? Yesterday? Last month? Last year? Ever? I think we all get so caught up with our lives and all that we have to do, that we don’t take the time to stop and compliment all the time and effort we put in to each day. We love others. We teach others. We serve others. We worry about others. What about OURSELVES? We need love. We need to be taught. We need to be served. We need to be watched over.
So, I say to you … love yourself. Spoil yourself this Valentine’s. Buy yourself a gift, make yourself dinner, hug yourself (yes, it is possible), or treat yourself in your own special way. You deserve it. You’ve earned it. You’re worth it.
Today, and every day, remember the powerful words from Shakespeare… “This above all: to thine own self be true.”
