Dear Oklahoma, Boston, N’Orleans, and Newtown
We ache for your children lost
In the chaos of terror and heartache
Our hearts break at such a high cost
And we grapple with what can be done
Stop the storms and the rage and the guns
And we cry for the mothers and fathers
Whose arms ache for their daughters and sons
And we pray and we watch and we listen
Hoping to find the answers to why
No longer content with our innocence
We watch captivated and cry
And tonight while our children are sleeping
We keep vigils at their side
And dream of a world free of hate and sorrow
Where love conquers all far and wide
And if by chance you are listening
Dear cities now drowning in tears
May you know your children are loved
And will be remembered throughout the years
